5 accessible tips to profile yourself as a coach via video
Recording video is the focal point where limiting beliefs, imposter syndrome and every bit of doubt about your mission, vision and knowledge come together and are painfully palpable. I don't know of any other activity as an entrepreneur that is more challenging than showing yourself in front of the camera.
Just jump!
But just like jumping off the highest diving board, the fear is most palpable just before you jump. Immediately afterwards, pride and a wonderful feeling of victory and freedom prevail.
So that's why we do it!
Well, that's the short-term gain anyway.
It is of course much more important that with a video you actively and directly shape the desire to make a difference in the world. To inform and inspire people with what you know, have discovered and experienced. Starting a movement by simply sharing and Being who you are.
Your favor factor
Text and photos give a good idea of who you are, but they do not convey your uniqueness. It's one-dimensional and you can't really get it done. The only way where your energy and sparkle, or your goodwill factor, is faithfully visible and that is scalable, is video.
And so you pick up your phone again and give it a try (again).
Or do you think about it and immediately decide that video is not for you.
Stalemate.
Limiting beliefs
Before I tell you how I deal with this and help other entrepreneurs, first gain insight into which blockages conscious entrepreneurs place for themselves. Maybe you recognize a few, or all of them ;-).
Often the first we encounter are the limiting beliefs about who we are and what we can do:
– Who am I to tell this? I'm not the expert.
– Everything I think of has already been done, what else does my contribution add?
– I can't make a video, I'm not technical enough/I don't have the budget for that.
– I'm not ready for it now, I first need more clarity/ training/ knowledge/ new website/ appropriate corporate identity.
When we then pick up the camera, a different dynamic plays out. As soon as the camera is running, we experience a pressure that removes all spontaneity and sensitivity about the subject we want to tell. The inspiration suddenly disappears and we freeze. We are going to do even better and press on. As a result, we lose connection with ourselves.
It becomes a major issue instead of a cry from the heart.
As a result, everything that makes you so fun and special, our magic, has disappeared on video.
And the technical aspect?
Imagine that you manage to record a nice video, but you can still stumble on the technical aspects. Because taking and posting video is surrounded by decisions and knowledge that greatly influence the quality and enjoyment of watching it. The following difficult questions arise between pressing record and posting on social media.
– Do I hold the phone upright or horizontally?
– What light gives a nice image?
– How do you get the sound clear?
– How do I cut out the beginning/end/eehhh's?
– Can I incorporate my logo or text into the video, and how do I do that?
– How on earth do I get subtitles in?
I understand that your courage is failing and you are postponing taking action again.
Until the next time your desire to make more impact arises again ;-).
Principles for authentic videos
When I make a video portrait of entrepreneurs, or coach them to make videos themselves, I work with the following principles that may also help you:
– Stay connected. With yourself and with the person for whom the message is intended.
– Authenticity is a process rather than a snapshot.
– Make it personal instead of perfectionistic.
– Walk your own path, find your own way.
– Make it light and have fun.
How can you easily put these points into practice? Well simple!
Instead of tying your first video to the greatest visibility, make it as small and intimate as possible at first; As soon as you feel inspired, grab your smartphone and send your dearest friend a video message about it. Afterwards, save it on your phone and share it on your social media channel of choice. Repeat this a few times until you feel comfortable enough for the next step.
Huppakee, done and dusted!
This way you bypass your limiting beliefs, you do not experience the pressure of performing in front of the camera and you automatically ensure a pleasant image and sound to watch and listen to. And BAM! Before you know it, you'll be sharing your first authentic video online!

An image says more than…
Mike has made videos himself for his YouTube channel. Even though he is good at filming and editing himself, he and his business partner Bas asked Marjoy to make a video of their co-working platform. That decision gave them the space and focus to fully dedicate themselves to sharing their enthusiasm about their service. See the result here:
